Fort Steuben Bridge

The Ohio River is crossed by some large suspension bridges. This 1928 steel-wire suspension bridge carries old US-22 between Steubenville, OH and Weirton, WV. Note the Warren truss-work to stiffen the deck - a feature of virtually all suspension bridges. The bridge is still in service but scheduled for demolition in 2009 as it has been essentially replaced by the cable stay bridge partially visible in the background. The photo was taken from the Ohio side at a boat launch area.
